WORDS!

rhema

bringing you a step closer to God... hopefully

Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein and ye shall find rest for your souls.
Jeremiah 6:16

The Ancient Paths

One of the dangers of traditionalism is falling into meaningless rituals. One of the dangers of chasing the cutting edge is forgetting our purpose. Y’know, we do all the cool media stuff –movies and songs and MTV’s. We make our music contemporary so kids can sing along and jump and hyper themselves out. Fine. Good. But what happens when the music becomes exactly like those “outside”? What happens when the MTV’s stop being “clean” to attract more viewers? What happens to the message then? That compromise is okay?

We run after new things so fast we forget where we came from. The newest technology, the latest and best software, the newest medicine and fashions. All the bright pretty bling blings and flashy accessories. Good to be on the cutting edge, really, but is that all there is?

Have you ever discovered that you can’t get very far in add maths if your modern maths really sucks? Foundations. You hate ‘em, but you need ‘em. If you can’t remember what on earth you studied in 2.6 Audit and Internal Review, you’re gonna die when you do 3.1 Audit and Assurance Services. (Like I am… haha)

Old boundaries are sacred.

The thing is, much as it is good to take hold of new opportunities, you’ll get lost in the opportunities if you don’t have the road map of where you want to go firmly in your grasp. If you don’t have a firm foundation in God’s word, you’ll find yourself breaking boundaries and walking into very risky grey areas. And then you’ll find yourself in a big mess, and what do you do then? That’s right. Blame God.

“But you should have told me…”
“I did. You didn’t listen.”

Nothing is new under the sun.

If you notice, inventions nowadays are more of additions and improvements to old things, rather than something spectacularly new. If you really think about it, even the “new” inventions are something of an innovation to things that God has made in the natural. (But I may be talking off the top of my head here). Yet, nothing is ever, ever exactly very new and created stand-alone (except the ultimate beginning and creation of God). It always has the hint of something else in it. Fashions are recycled. Stories are recycled (Oh yes, stories are so so so so so recycled). People are looking to ancient religions and cults to find meaning. And here we go traipsing along, ignoring the fact that the ultimate truth and root of antiquity is in our hands. Why? Because it’s been modernised so much. It’s been modernised to that 15th – 16th century era (but that’s so old) when people are digging deeper to dunno-what BC practices and cults.

Build your foundations. Find your roots.
